The Baby Sitter story
Lottie Slocum is the last person to have seen Clara Nash before she was strangled to death. Lottie, who used to be the Nashes' babysitter, believes that Clara had it coming because she treated her husband Mr. Nash badly. Lottie has feelings for Mr. Nash, and hopes to please him by keeping his secret from the police — that he was at home the night that Clara died — but he kills her instead.
