Lily Chan's boyfriend Sergei is given a coveted position on the secretive quantum computing team at Amaya, called Devs. After being shown what the machine can do, he secretly records its code using his wristwatch. Forest, Amaya's founder, confronts him over the theft and has Kenton, his head of security, suffocate him. Lily reports Sergei missing and is shown footage of him apparently walking out of the building and setting himself on fire. On his phone she finds a program disguised as a Sudoku game, and asks her ex- boyfriend Jamie to break into it.
