the problem of evil theme

also known as: whence cometh evil

Discussed is the ancient problem of how to reconcile the existence of evil with the existence of an omnipotent, omnibenevolent, and omniscient God.

Examples

"The Epicurian paradox" famously goes as follows: Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?
