Someone gets what they desire only to find out that they really shouldn't have desired it in the first place.

Notes

This proverb is normally used when a person does not have the maturity or sophistication to understand what the outcome of their desire will actually mean to themself. It is notably not applied in situations where there is hidden information about the outcome that makes it undesirable, and that no person could possibly have known beforehand irrespective of such things as maturity.
