healthcare in society theme
The various ways people may receive medical attention when they need it, is discussed. Typically, the workings of an institution that provides such care is featured. For example, we may see a dysfunctional publicly run healthcare program, or substandard helathcare provided by greedy private doctors.
Examples
In "Red Beard" (1965), the eponymous doctor is in charge of an overloaded and underfunded rural medical clinic in 19th century Edo Japan. We see the plight of the various patients and, even though this is set over a century in the past, must reflect on how healthcare provision works or ought to work.
